Cape in progress

Cape in progress

The cape construction began on Making day in April. The geometric machine stitching was inspired by the shape Metatron’s Cube, containing all the platonic solids. Each circular, colour coded area on the cape is inspired by pattern found in other natural forms and relates to the areas of the mapping exercise.

Each colour section is hand stitched. Below are some of the reference photos I have used to affect the free-form embroidery designs. A cell, cymatic sound patterns, an eye, root systems, labyrinths, neolithic glyphs, solar representations and atoms.

There are six circles with a circular hole in the centre (where your head pops through). The underside of the cape reveals another view of the thread drawings, equally as relevant. Bowie aptly described it as an inside out piece. 120 metres of thread used to date……. a work in progress.
