Group 1 crit call Nov 9th

These photos were taken of crumpled wax papers back lit using a red light. in my call with Sally I sought her help and feedback as I was feeling rather lost with the framing. These images excited me, they captured the notion of nerves under the skin for me. Hidden networks. I knew I wanted to use them further but wasn’t content leaving them as a photo.

We talked about walking through these papers as a space, realistically I couldn’t produce a life size one so having showed Sal my room model we hit off the Labyrinth idea. The lost feeling of a maze-like labyrinth accurately describes the landscape of identity at this moment.  I have done some research since around the construction, the mathematics of laying out the labyrinth plan and will plot it out on a large drawing to be converted into a model using the wax paper. Its not unlike the grid as a structure, but more curved and organic.

Having the one on one crit call for an hour was so beneficial. We swapped ideas back and forth, its a very powerful exchange to have another artist for a mentor.  Using photos I gathered at the Knitting & Stitching show we both saw opportunities to frame our work in different ways, suspending, connecting, twisting and loosely hanging. I’m very grateful to Sally for her time and investment.
